We all know that flowers are appropriate and wonderful gifts for Mother’s Day, Valentine’s Day, anniversaries and birthdays, but there are many other unique observances that are a perfect time to present a friend or loved one with some special flowers.
Friendship Day is a fun time to send a bouquet of flowers to a cherished friend. This day was originally created in 1919 by the founder of Hallmark cards, but it is now celebrated in many countries as International Friendship Day. This celebration typically occurs on the first weekend in August.
Not only do we have days to honor Mom and Dad, there is also a day to honor grandparents, as well. Grandparents’ Day is set for the first Sunday after Labor Day and is a great time to send a flower arrangement or a card to your grandma or grandpa or both. Don’t forget to give them a call, as well!
You may not have ever heard of it, but Sweetest Day is a real holiday that has been celebrated in America since the 1920s. The day was designated as a day to bring treats and caring to those in need, especially orphans and the elderly, but also the poor and the sick. It is also a day where you are meant to show your appreciation to those who have been kind to you. So, it is the perfect day to send flowers to someone who has shown you a special kindness. It is also fun to donate some time to a local food bank or homeless shelter or perhaps bring some flowers, brownies or cookies to a nursing home or retirement home.
If you have grandkids or perhaps nieces and nephews, consider sending them a spooky flower arrangement for Halloween. You can send flowers placed in a pumpkin vase adorned with bats or spiders or perhaps a witch’s hat. For St. Patrick’s Day, send someone a cheerful bouquet of white flowers in a bright green vase. A great Fourth of July gift would be a charming red, white and blue bouquet.
For Arbor Day or Earth Day, why not send someone special a live plant or a basket filled with several plants? Some online stores will even send you a tree to plant in your yard. This can be a fun, unexpected gift for your favorite nature lover.
