Making A Landscape Design Map

Proper Pool Design can reap many benefits for any home owner. As with any other home improvement project the best rewards come to those that plan accordingly. Good landscaping is not about going to the nursery and buying a bunch of shrubs and plants and coming home and planting them.

The importance of a good plan cannot be overstated. This kind of plan will make it easier to figure out placement of water features as well as plants and shrubs for maximum effect. The best place to begin is with a map. This map will have accurate dimensions of the yards. Remember that you also need to correctly place your house in the map as well.

In order to have a reliable and accurate map to work from you will need accurate dimensions. The only good way to get reliable dimensions is to take accurate measurements of your homes surroundings.

Many view measuring their yard and the surrounding area around their house as difficult and time consuming. In order to make this a little easier you can should try and get a copy of the homes plots map or parcel maps. You can attain a copy by asking for one from the builder or by going to your local records office for a copy. This map will show you how your land was divided as well as where any utility and sewer lines are located.

These maps will not be to scale so you will have to take measurements and transfer those numbers onto it. A great place to start measuring is in your yard. Start the measurement from a corner of your home to the property line at the end of your yard. Next take the measurement from a corner to the property line on the side. This will be done for all sides of the house.

If your home has any angles or other features make a note of that as well. The best way to accurately record this data without making a mess of markings on your parcel map is to use graph paper. Use these squares to highlight any odd angles of your home. Once all the measurements have been recording accurately on graph paper you have a template of your home both front yard, back yard and how the house sits on the land.

No matter how small your landscape design plans maybe it is still important to work from a solid plan or map. Remember that your map will be as accurate as your measurements are. When possible take the time to secure a copy of your parcel map. Use graph paper to make it easier to note measurements as well as your homes angles.
