I have a rather large corner lot, but I don’t consider it to be that big. The Edge Hog seemed to do O.K., but I had to buy a new blade each time I needed to edge the yard. I have Zoysia grass which has not been edged for over 15 years. The Boss Edger cut right through it (in some places had to make a couple of passes but nonetheless it cut right through it) and made a tough task easier than I expected. Will buy another when I wear this one out. Rated it 4 out of 5 stars because it doesn’t have the cutting power of a gas edger but it certainly is good enough for me. I am amazed how well this little machine can cut through the toughest overgrowth (6″) on my driveway. I had no problem handling it. I cut slots in the lawn within 1/2 inch of my radial wires (#14 insulated wires) and the Edge Hog didn’t even move them. Very accurate cutting and easy to see where you are going with it. I think this feature makes it superior to using a string trimmer turned on its side (it’s hard to make an exact and clean cut with a string trimmer). It’s got plenty of power for my yard and it edges about as fast as you can walk.
This has so many features over a gas edger that it makes dealing with the cord worthwhile for any lot that is one acre or less. It easily cuts a clean line with little effort and is easy to manage. Be prepared however, the first time you use is will be the most difficult. After using it for the first time this past weekend, I found that the grass along the side of my driveway had grown over about 2 to 3 inches in most spots.
The blade is larger diameter than my old B&D edger. That precludes getting a deep cut at corners where sidewalks intersect. I do not recommend this product, and recommend getting a gas edger instead. I wish I had never gotten it and am now looking for a decent edger that can do the job. I am a ham radio operator and bought this equipment specifically to bury radials for a ground-mounted vertical antenna installation. The antenna is in my back yard, which is covered with lawn. This is a really great lawn edger. I had been looking for a replacement for my old edger that finally quit working.
It worked beautifully and felt great. I got some goggles out, and whenever I hit a rock, I used a small garden shovel at that very moment to dig the rocks out from the immediate area in front of me and kept moving. Having used a variety of edgers that I’ve borrowed, I was nicely surprised at how quite this one was in comparison. I also like how well it performed when I used it to sharpen the edges of my garden areas.
I replaced a 4 HP gas driven edger with this electric model. Running an electric cord all over the yard is a hassle but so was trying to start a gas motor and filling it with gasoline.
Cleaner, no need for gas mix. GENERATOR ENCLOSURE.
